Over a year has passed since Olivia Ann Greyson discovered that she is a Charmer, a Dhampir fated to be part of the violent supernatural world that surrounds our human one. In that time, she has strengthened herself physically, learned of her family’s secret past, and found a deep and abiding love with the strongest man she has ever met, Daywalker Caleb Wolfe. But Olivia’s biggest challenge still lies ahead of her . . .
Dark vampire lord Luther Davin has been obsessed with capturing Olivia so he can use her special gifts for his own reasons. As Caleb and Olivia try to make a new life together with their coven, the Nightwalker’s attempts to capture her only intensify and inadvertently bring an unwelcome visitor from Caleb’s past barging back into his life.
She is Caelestis—Celeste to the modern world—and she claims to be Caleb’s first and rightful mate. Although Olivia has grown confident and secure in her relationship with Caleb, she soon realizes that Celeste sees herself as no less than a goddess among mere mortals and will stop at nothing to get Caleb back—which means Olivia herself must die!
When these two threats collide and fate steps in to pull Olivia away from her new family, will she be ready for her darkest hour and her greatest battle?
My thoughts...
The Charmed Fates is the last book in the trilogy. I've really enjoyed reading about the characters and watching Olivia grow into her powers. I liked that each book had something totally different happening in it. In the final book not only are we faced with Davin (the nightwalker who's obsessed with Olivia) but we also meet the woman who turned Caleb into a vampire. Celeste still claims that he's her mate and it's clear from the beginning that she will do whatever necessary to get him back.
With the duo threat, I thought this book was going to contain a lot of suspense and fighting but it didn't. In fact the story was a lot of Olivia doubting not only just herself but Caleb and Jax as well. Olivia's obsessive doubts really started to grate on my nerves. This was an issue I had with the previous books and I'd have thought that once she was mated to Caleb that she would realize that he loves her. However, the second Celeste comes into the picture Olivia's immediately doubting their bond and pretty much starts playing into Celeste's hand. Although, Caleb's agreement to put the hag up for the day in the tree house had me questioning his intelligence. But then again, some times men just don't fully think things through the way they should.
Regardless of my intense urge to strangle Olivia over her immaturity, I did find the finale of the story to be entertaining. There is a lot that takes place with Gemma and Jax, Caleb and Olivia and even Alec. I liked the way that Christine brought all the characters together for one final showdown before the ending. I will definitely be keeping my eye out for what Christine comes out with next.
