Once blissfully in love . . .

Poppy Lane is keeping secrets. Her powerful gift has earned her membership in the Society for the Suppression of Supernaturals, but she must keep both her ability and her alliance with the Society from her husband, Winston. Yet when Winston is brutally attacked by a werewolf, Poppy's secrets are revealed, leaving Winston's trust in her as broken as his body. Now Poppy will do anything to win back his affections . . .

Their relationship is now put to the ultimate test.

Winston Lane soon regains his physical strength but his face and heart still bear the scars of the vicious attack. Drawn into the darkest depths of London, Winston must fight an evil demon that wants to take away the last hope of reconciliation with his wife. As a former police inspector, Winston has intelligence and logic on his side. But it will take the strength of Poppy's love for him to defeat the forces that threaten to tear them apart.

My thoughts...
Due to Poppy keeping not only her powers but the whole supernatural world a secret from Winston, who prides himself with honesty, they've separated. Poppy was the one person Winston could believe in but now he knows that she was keeping secrets from him the entire time and that's shattered his trust in her. But when a powerful demon sets its sights on Winston's soul, they team together to rush against the clock in hopes of saving him.

I will admit that Poppy and Winston were not my favorite characters from the series. However, I loved the previous two books and thought that I'd grow to love them in this story. But that was not the case. Although I will admit that they held my attention throughout the story. I just didn't connect with them as much as I did with the previous characters.

I liked that the story flips between the first time Poppy and Winston met to the present time. So we get to see their relationship bloom while they deal with the current turmoil that they are in. The flashbacks aren't pointless either, they are a huge part of the story and the current predicament that they are in.

I think what got me was all the talk and no show. There's a lot of planning, angst, regret and desire in this story. However, the two characters spend the majority of the time dancing around each other. It isn't until the end that I started to gain interest in what was happening. It was as if the majority of the book was all buildup for the last bit.

Favorite quote...
"You were always my anchor, Poppy. Now I am adrift." -Winston
