In My Mailbox #14

In My Mailbox is Kristi's (aka The Story Siren) way of getting bloggers together to write about what new books they just got their hands on for the week. It doesn't have to be books that you actually received in the mail, it can be books that you bought in a store or even books that you picked up from your local library.

Bought...
The two authors below are from my hometown. They both had book signings back home. I was unable to attend since I now reside in CA but I sent my mom to go to Gina's signing and it turns out that Alice's parents were the ones that owned the gas station on the corner of my street and were at Gina's signing. So my mom got to catch up with old friends while at the book signing for me and picked up a signed copy of Alice's book.
Small world!

Croak
(Croak #1)
By: Gina Damico

Sixteen-year-old Lex Bartleby has sucker-punched her last classmate. Fed up with her punkish, wild behavior, her parents ship her off to upstate New York to live with her Uncle Mort for the summer, hoping that a few months of dirty farm work will whip her back into shape. But Uncle Mort’s true occupation is much dirtier than that of shoveling manure.

He’s a Grim Reaper. And he’s going to teach her the family business.

Lex quickly assimilates into the peculiar world of Croak, a town populated entirely by reapers who deliver souls from this life to the next. Along with her infuriating yet intriguing partner Driggs and a rockstar crew of fellow Grim apprentices, Lex is soon zapping her Targets like a natural born Killer.

Force of Habit
(Falcone & Driscoll Investigation #1)
By: Alice Loweecey

Giulia Falcone is convinced she's going to Hell. First, because she left the convent. Second, her new job with a private investigator has her sneaking around and lying. Adjusting to life in the outside world isn't easy. Makeup, dating, and sex are all new to her. And despite a crush on her boss Frank Driscoll--a foul-mouthed, soft-hearted ex-cop--Giulia is sure he'd never fall for an ex-nun.

Her first case involves drop-dead handsome Blake Parker, a man with immense wealth and an ego to match. He and his fiancee are getting disturbing "gifts" with messages based on biblical verses. When Giulia is drawn into the stalker's twisted game, salacious photos of her appear, threatening her job and her friendship with Frank. No one imagines--least of all naive Giulia--the danger ahead, when following the clues turns into a fight for her life.

Back in the Habit
(Falcone & Driscoll Investigation #2)
By: Alice Loweecey

It's been over a year since Giulia Falcone fled the convent, and her new case is the stuff of nightmares: she's going back. Giulia's former Superior General has hired Driscoll Investigations to confirm that the sudden death of Sister Bridget, a troubled young Novice, was a suicide in order to squelch a lawsuit. Did something drive Sister Bridget to desperation? Or was she murdered? Gathering every ounce of courage to confront her past, Giulia dons the dreaded habit--putting a serious damper on her budding romance with her boss, Frank--and returns to the Motherhouse to investigate. What she uncovers is less than holy

Tiger's Voyage
(The Tiger Saga, #3)
By: Colleen Houck

With the head-to-head battle against the villainous Lokesh behind her, Kelsey confronts a new heartbreak: in the wake of his traumatic experience, her beloved Ren no longer remembers who she is. As the trio continues their quest by challenging five cunning and duplicitous dragons, Ren and Kishan once more vie for her affections--leaving Kelsey more confused than ever

Maid Sama!
(Maid Sama, #1)
By: Hiro Fujiwara

Brilliant and overachieving, Misaki Ayuzawa is the President of the Student Council at Seika High School, formerly a boys' school. Unfortunately, most of the students are still male and stuck in their slovenly habits, so man-hating Misaki really socks it to 'em in an attempt to make the school presentable to attract more female students. But what will she do when the sexiest boy in school finds out that after school, Misaki works in a maid cafe!
