Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn't exactly glamorous, but it was Merit's. She was doing fine until a rogue vampire attacked her. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker-and this one decided the best way to save her life was to make her the walking undead.

Turns out her savior was the master vampire of Cadogan House. Now she's traded sweating over her thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan "Lord o' the Manor" Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed, four-hundred- year-old vampire, he has centuries' worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects her gratitude- and servitude. But an inconvenient sunlight allergy and Ethan's attitude are the least of her concerns. Someone's still out to get her. Her initiation into Chicago's nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war-and there will be blood
.

My thoughts...
Merit is a smart mouthed, sassy chick who doesn't take being turned into a vampire lightly. She is livid that Sullivan turned her regardless that it was that or die. However, with that being said she cannot deny the instantaneous attraction that she has for him when she meets him. No matter how much she tries to hate him, she just cannot seem to.

After rescuing a damsel in distress and giving her immortal life, Ethan isn't so sure if he made the right decision. His new initiate is not only sarcastic and has a problem with authority but she gets under his skin and for some reason he finds her irresistible. But when asked to be his consort she turns him down, Ethan, the Master of one of the oldest vampire houses!

The attraction between the two of them was what made the story. They both don't like each other but they are just unable to fight the attraction. I couldn't help but get sucked into Merit's life as she adjusts to not only her new life as a vampire but her life as the Sentinel. On top of it all she finds out her grandfather is pretty much the link between supernaturals and humans and there is a war starting to brew. As if adjusting to life wasn't hard enough, poor Merit has a lot piling up on her plate.

Favorite quote...
Merit- "Yes, I get that you don't want to be attracted to me, that you think I'm beneath you, but thank you for pointing out anyway. And in case you haven't realized it, I'm not thrilled about it, either. I don't want to like you, and I certainly don't want to be with someone who's appalled by me. I don't want to be... desired begrudgingly."
Ethan- "Then what do you want me to say? That I wanted you to taste me? For all that you're stubborn, sarcastic, completely unable to take seriously my authority, and patently disrespectful, that I want you? Do you think this is what I would choose?"
