Emma is happy. She's got a promising career in front of her, great friends, and a pretty amazing family. But her social life has been a little lacking lately. That's when fate stepped in, and crashed her into a tall, dark and handsome man. Sure, he has his secrets...don't we all, and, yeah, maybe his secrets are a little more unusual than most - like he's a partial vampire who can walk around during the day, but also enjoys a little plasma nightcap now and again - but to Emma, he's single, successful, and an extraordinary gentleman. That makes up for a lot. Of course, his condition is a bit more serious than he first lets on, and living a life with him will require some sacrifices that most just aren't willing to make. Will she? Is love enough to compensate for a life that will never be anywhere near the realm of normalcy? But then again...what's normal anyway?
I was sucked into the world of Emma and Teren. I loved the progression of Teren's half vampirism. The fact that he was born with vampire blood in him which will eventually turn him into a full blown vampire. At first you think that the book is just about the struggle and the unknown about what will happen when he "dies" and his vampire blood takes over but the author throws in another twist right before the ending. Without giving anything away all I can say is that you think that you know all that is going to happen in the book and where the climax really is and then all of a sudden you're like... WHAT?!? What the heck just happened?!
The writing style is more like my internal dialogue. Uncensored and jumbled at times. Which you might think would be off putting but for me, but I loved it. I loved how raw Emma's thoughts were. It didn't have the feel of a book that was wrung through the editorial wringer.
Favorite quote...
Towards the end of the book, Emma's sister Ashley comes out to Teren's family's ranch. Who consists of his full vampire Great Grandmother, his half vampire blood grandmother, his mother who has a quarter vampire in her and his father who is fully human. Since his great grandmother is a full vampire, she doesn't really have any humanity in her. So when Ashley comes for a visit Emma warns her to not bully her sister.
"In my most menacing tone, I firmly told her, 'I will drag your sleeping ass out into the sun, if you so much as drop a fang at my sister. Play nice.' She gaped at me and I realized, as I looked around, that the other vamps were gaping at me as well. I straightened my shoulders and focused my eyes only on hers. Suddenly she started laughing, and slung a cool arm around my shoulders. 'I like you more and more every day'."
That is a great quote, that alone makes me want to read this one :) I'm glad you loved it - I will be adding Conversion to my wishlist now...
