My thoughts
This was the first book by Maureen A. Miller that I have read. I thought the synopsis sounded interesting and decided to give it a go. The story was entertaining but it was sort of lacking for me. Some parts were a little unbelievable to me, like the simple fact that if I thought I had a mercenary in my house that was sent to kill me, I wouldn't care if he froze to death sitting in his car throughout the night, actually I would be praying that lightening struck him on his way to the car. I certainly wouldn't invite him in to spend the night so that he can wait out the storm either.
However, the story was still entertaining and had me reading more. Even though some parts were a little hard to swallow there was still the fact that there was a mad man on the loose looking for her and she was fighting for her life. I liked seeing the transition from feral Meg to normal Meg.
My favorite part
was when Meg and Jake are in the bar and a man walks in the bar that totally spooks Meg, now mind you she is still very skittish of Jake. "Meg instinctively shrank back into Jake. The gesture was so unconscious he felt a soft tug in the pit of his stomach. She leaned back even farther, trying to sink into him. He slipped an arm around her and was wholly aware of her - aware of her slim back against his chest, her scent, her fear, which enveloped her like a shroud - a cloak that he wanted to understand and eliminate." - It was the first time that she actually put her trust into Jake.
I think just based on the favorite part, I'd be swooning to say "Yes I TRUST YOU!"
